The Story behind the yurts
A few years ago, before the days of staycations and when a slower pace of life was not on many busy peoples’ minds, an Anglo-Norsk couple living in Norway decided to look at yurts as an interesting, natural, environmentally friendly and fun way of providing accommodation.
Initially it was considered as a way of providing beautiful structures for events and pop-ups but once a few research trips (or holidays) were conducted it became clear that if it were possible to work with local businesses and landowners it would be amazing to use the yurts on campsites. For the newly coined concept of GLAMPING.
Yurts are amazing structures, some say healing (we agree) and certainly they are balanced and symmetrical. The hardwoods used can be steam-bent to allow for more standing space inside. As a traditional portable nomadic structure, yurts have been used for centuries as dwellings; they are safe, strong and can withstand extreme weather.
Many non-nomadic cultures have adopted yurts or yurt-styled structures as dwellings too and having built several from scratch using carefully selected, short travelled materials, Nordic Glamping understands the appeal of yurts as short and longer stays or even the adoption as a permanent home.
